The world has ground to a halt, and so too has the physical UK games chart. There's sadly not much to report this week, as new releases have dried up and we're left with the usual suspects.
In fact, a game that's been in the top 10 nearly every week for many years, Grand Theft Auto V, is very nearly back at the very top. It's in second place after the ludicrously successful Switch exclusive Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Other mainstays like FIFA 20, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are all accounted for, in positions three, four, and six respectively.
Sadly, Final Fantasy VII Remake has dipped out of the top 10 for the first time, slipping to 13th place. However, things are looking up for Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which bounds back up to 17th after the unveiling of Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.
UK Sales Charts: Week Ending 9th May 2020
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Grand Theft Auto V
- FIFA 20
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
- Luigi's Mansion 3
- Red Dead Redemption 2
- Minecraft
- New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

GTA V isn't even the best in the series, and that's a fact.
@DonJorginho eh.... the only one arguably better is San andreas. But the multiplayer edges it honestly.
On topic....gta 5 is immortal.
final fantasy desperately needs a better marketing and promotion campaign to keep selling..
I see Red Dead Redemption 2 has popped back in. I hope peeps can really appreciate how good Arthur's story is now that they have enough time to play through it.
I dare say GTA's spike is in no small part due to it leaving a certain rival subscription service
@Cutmastavictory Come on everyone knows Vice City is the best. Even if i only talk about the music then again GTA is boring. π
Still dont own it if you played one you played them all. π
I still dip into gta online all these years later since the 360, now on Xbox One (would get it on ps4 if I could still port my character but I ain't grinding again). Weirdly feels like home when I play it.
I'm sure I read somewhere Jedi Fallen Order has passed 10 million copies sold. Hopefully we might see some more single-player Star Wars games.
@Flaming_Kaiser great soundtrack, but not the best. And no, if you played one you haven't played them all. Very false.
@PapaGlitch Indeed. Microsoft keeps telling people that itβs subscribers actually spend more buying on video games not less. I expect a lot of people end up buying games when they leave the service partway through their play through.
@Bagshot
Agreed. Also, as long as it keeps selling so well, where is the incentive to make another?
Good taste in gaming it's dying in the UK
How many folks in Great Britain total? Does everyone own a copy for every system they have? Lol.
Is a 2 month old Nintendo game being at the top of the charts in the UK yet another sign of the apocalypse in 2020? 50+ days and counting. Does even Pokemon do that? Or Mario?
My son is playing SW:FO now, it's pretty good. I feel like I watching the Tom Holland Uncharted movie.
Incredible that such a limited game captivates the minds of millions of Switch owners. Then again: the Switch doesn't have anything else going for it .
@eumenes once something becomes a hit, the sheep follow.
Just bought Fallen Order since it had a sale last week. It is really a great game so far. I love the sense of becoming more badass in the force as I go.
The only complaint I have is the explanation for gaining force powers. He forgot how to use them and then suddenly remembers them again? Surely they could have done better than that.
Anyone else fully expecting GTA V to get yet another remaster for the PS5 and for that version to start topping the charts every week? It's never going to end, man.
Because you can't buy any other games. Go in Tesco and have a look at the small selection of games they have. It's almost identical across the PlayStation and Xbox sections. Go into a big Sainsbury it's the same deal with even less choice.
@DonJorginho That's your opinion, not a fact. I know people are getting tired of GTA V topping the sales but don't act dumb.
Blimey! the next GTA game has some very big sales shoes to fill! lol
@DonJorginho it's by far the best in the series before Vice City.
@Cutmastavictory Sorry mate for me they are all the same but thats me its boring too me. π
@Flaming_Kaiser and you are in the minority. They aren't in the same locations or eras. But they are so influenced by American culture, maybe that's why you don't appreciate the difference between them much.
@Bagshot People are born every day. There were hundreds of thousands of people who were, say, 8 when the game came out who are now in their teens. If no one was ever born then, yeah, you'd run out of new customers. But it's like saying "How are people still getting married? Isn't everyone married by now?". Of course, the game still needs to be popular enough to take advantage of the constant influx of new customers - most games aren't so just disappear from the charts.
@eumenes its got that accessibility factor Nintendo does so well.
@Cutmastavictory It doesnt change the fact that it does not excite me a Manhunt 3 release would though. And i believe that American culture stuff is nonsense there are a lot of Europeans that love them i just dont.
@themcnoisy Is it that bad? Wow thats dissapointing there are so many different great games.
@Flaming_Kaiser I know, it's a self fulfilling prophecy. The mass market games will always do better in these charts as you can't impulse purchase anything else.
@SlippingBack I got the sense that he buried the force powers inside to hide from the Empire. And that need is bringing them back.
@themcnoisy Still proud i dont own GTAV. π
Ff7 remake slipping out isn't that surprising, it's an exclusive title against most of the top ten being multiplatform or Nintendo, with most Nintendo games having a much wider audience in age range.
@Cloud39472 I really dont like GTA sorry but i dont.
